Are you even a Melbournian if you are not familiar with the name Axil? It is a name that has become synonymous with great coffee. It is what caffeinated dreams are made of, it is the Mecca of coffee. Home to their core roasting facilities, Axil Coffee Roasters Cafe in Hawthorn is also their flagship café serving some scrumptious brunch options. This cafe is a classic Melbourne warehouse conversion boasting of high ceiling, metal lattice wall, hanging lights and potted plants.
The menu has some brunch superstars like buttermilk pancakes, smashed avo, zucchini corn haloumi fritters, vanilla waffles - to name a few. But the undisputed superstar is their Shakshuka (baked eggs). Spicy peperonata, dukkah and meredith feta served with pumpkin grain toast; sounds simple but some things are the best when done with simplicity. It is not too spicy but just the right amount of heat making it a perfect choice for when the temperature dips. I have tried many baked eggs in the past 2 years and I can say this is by far the best one in Melbourne. Cannot recommend it enough.

John Doe had the buttermilk pancakes; can't go wrong with the classics! Cocoa powder, chocolate sorbet, oreo crumble, banana, white chocolate and cream cheese ganache - looks and sounds like heaven! Definitely having these on my next visit.

Let's talk about coffee!

What can I say about the multiple award winner that hasn't been said before. If that's enough, the steady stream of customers lining up for coffee on any given day says at all. Axil's range of deliciously smooth & full-bodied coffees hits all the right notes making it one of my all time favourites.
To sum things up, Axil Cafe is where good food meets great coffee served in a instaworthy setting. It's a choice one can't go wrong with!
